Punkbuster regularly updates their client program for Battlefield 2142. The update program is available at EvenBalance.com. Select the Windows Operating System. And follow the direction on the page.

SAAW 86 Anti Aircraft Weapon PART1

Here are some aspects that I would like to point out. They are not in any particular order of merit.

1. A full time SAAW user can really annoy the enemy pilots. You do not have to destroy every aircraft to make the affect but if the enemy knows that as soon as they start flying around a lock on will occur they may just decide not to bother and thus the side you are on can gain air dominance.

2. A lock on without firing can result in enemy aircraft taking defensive measures and thus for a short period reduce deaths on your side.

3. Good pilots will seek you out and try to kill you - try not to continually camp in the one spot and also watch your previous position for possible aircraft target. Good enemy Commanders or aircraft pilots will send soldiers out to get rid of SAAW users.

4. Use motion mines in your vicinity to help deter vehicles from running you over or at least get revenge on pilots who run you down.

5. A good gunship pilot will likely be able to out run/maneuver SAAW missiles if you shoot at them from a distance. Don't bother shooting at aircraft which are on the edge of visibility.

6. Be patient and wait for aircraft to get closer - the chances of getting a hit are much better as the pilot has a reduced reaction time.

7. Some pilots will hit their shields quickly when you establish a lock on. Wait a couple of seconds to see if they do this and after a few seconds of their shield being on then fire.

8. I have found that SAAW missiles have a better chance to hit if you remained zoomed in on the aircraft even after firing the second missile. Ie hold the mouse firing button down after firing the second shot and continually track the aircraft.

9. Once you have lock on a moving aircraft you can lead the aircraft before firing the SAAW. This can decrease the time it takes for the missile to reach the target.

10. Firing directly from behind the aircraft increases the chance of a hit.

Automatic Login

Tweak - Tweak >> Root

Automatic Login allows you to automatically login to your EA Account and the particular Soldier you want to use each time you start the game. This is relatively straightforward to do, and again involves editing your BF2142 command line options. To do this go to your BF2142 launch icon, right-click on it and select Properties. Then in the Target box put a single blank space after the last character and insert +eaAccountName [Accountname] +eaAccountPassword [Password] +soldierName [soldiername].

As an example of this, suppose my EA Account name which I use to login to BF2142 is KMachine, and the password for this account is 123abc, and further that the soldier I use to play online has the name OBudman. This means I'd have to alter my command line to look something like this (note the added items in italics):

Importantly you must use all the right cases for each command and parameter. In the example above, if I had used +eaaccountname kmachine for example, it would not work, it has to have correct capitalizations in each command and parameter used.

Now whenever you double-click your BF2142 launch icon, after a brief pause you should come to main BF2142 screen ready to start playing, having skipped the login and soldier selection screens. If you wish to alter your login or soldier details at any time, either remove these parameters from your command line, or simply click the small '\' button at the top right of the BF2142 menu screen to log out of your current account and go back to the account login screen.

Finally, if you see a long black screen at startup and the main BF2142 screen does not appear even after a few minutes, this is either because you've lost your connection to the Internet or the EA Master Server is having problems logging you in. You may have to physically restart your PC by pressing the reset button.
